Job description: Provides clerical support for the pathologists and other Laboratory and Nuclear Medicine staff.
Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Greets and directs patients, visitors and others and announces patient arrival.
  • Registers and completes patient data, physicians’ orders and admitting and insurance information.
  • Schedules patients’ appointments and coordinating with other departments as needed.
  • Transcribes physicians’ orders and dictation and produces letters, memos, and other correspondence.
  • Establishes and maintains files and records to include pathology reports, slides and/or blocks.
  • Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).

Additional duties may include:

  • Serves Collects specimens for tests as requested by the physician or other authorized provider including blood, urine, and feces.
  • Identifies patients and labels specimens required by Laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes universal precautions when performing any procedure involving blood or other body fluids.
  • Properly disposes of used sharps and other biohazardous waste.
  • Collects, processes, and delivers specimens to appropriate section of the Laboratory for testing.
  • Maintains phlebotomy trays and outpatient draw station (restocking supplies, cleanliness, etc.)


  • Knowledge of medical transcription, medical terminology and various software programs.
  • Computer and keyboarding skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

  • Medical terminology.


  • One-year certificate from a secretarial and/or medical transcription program.
  • Prefer phlebotomy experience or training.


  • Healthcare Provider BLS through AHA or ARC before start date.
