Job description: Job DescriptionJoin a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as the Director – Oncology Services. The Director will be a strategic operations partner to the Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer of Cancer Services.The successful candidate will be responsible for direct onsite management of the daily operations of a premier Cancer Center located at Ascension Health St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago. The Cancer Center is a partnership between UChicago Medicine (UCM) and Ascension Health (AH) that combines academic specialists and the latest cancer treatments in a community hospital setting. The scope of responsibilities includes UCM medical oncology, infusion therapy, and surgical oncology services as well as the joint-venture radiation oncology service.The Director will partner with multiple key leaders across UCM and AH in decision making, embracing the important mission and culture of each organization. The Director also serves as the liaison to the Board of the UCM and AH Joint Venture, responsible for the development of scorecards and reporting to illustrate performance of the JV on a frequent basis. The goal of the partnership is to grow and expand and this role will be responsible for articulating and tracking that growth, as well as leading discussions around expansion and other business development opportunities.The Director is principally responsible for ensuring consistency in patient and family experience, standards for access, quality, efficiency and effectiveness. The Director ensures that appropriate processes are implemented to support the providers and staff in delivering safe, effective patient care within a professionally rewarding practice environment.Reporting to the Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer of Cancer Services, the Director will promote excellence in all areas of ambulatory operations and serve as the champion for continued process improvement. The Director will maintain current accreditations and provide routine program assessment to facilitate leadership decisions regarding strategy and growth.Who you are:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred in nursing or other healthcare related field. RN strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive operational and administrative experience, ideally overseeing an oncology ambulatory practice.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills exhibited through outstanding interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with physician leaders and senior leaders in a large, complex and highly matrixed environment, preferably in an academic medical center.
- Significant experience working with multiple stakeholders, navigating conflict and establishing collaborative resolution.
- Track record of selecting and mentoring a high performing and engaged team.
- Proven ability to lead change, organize teams and delegate responsibility appropriately.
- Demonstrated expertise with diving into analytics, while strategically leading operations to support the growth and development of cancer services.
- Ability to use data to drive positive performance improvement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using LEAN for performance improvement is highly desirable.

What you’ll do as the Director – Oncology Services:
- Provide daily oversight of all operational workflows and throughput throughout the Cancer Center.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders on the implementation of both business and operational strategies to meet the Cancer Center goals.
- Manage and direct practice specific issues with IT, Facilities, EVS, Supply Chain, and other key components of support services.
- Ensure practice compliance with internal and external policies and regulatory groups, such as Infection Control, Revenue Cycle, Office of Compliance, Joint Commission, CMS, among others.
- Provide a passionate focus on ensuring patient and family needs are met and participate in service recovery efforts when needed to ensure service excellence.
- Recruit, supervise and lead managers and support staff with oversight, as well as the mentoring and development of team members.
- Monitor performance metrics and other relevant reports to make real-time operational adjustments. Collaborate with physicians, staff, and leaders to achieve and sustain desired results. Keen monitoring of operational budget.
- Active involvement in the strategic, project and budget planning with the executive team. Serves as the liaison to the Board for the Joint Venture.
- Foster efforts to positively impact the organization’s visibility, image, and relationship with its surrounding community. Serves as a key liaison and promotes strong partnership across both organizations to ensure mission, vision and values are consistent.
