  • Provides overall financial leadership in the management of state, research, endowment, and fee for service resources, in accordance with all applicable Federal, State and University guidelines.
  • Serves as principal adviser to the Dean/Vice Provost and Assistant Vice Provost on all budget, financial, and administrative matters.
  • Serves as a senior management team member and plays a key role in developing a strategic financial plan for budgeting, cash management, forecasting, risk management, and financial analysis; develops an all funds budget model for the KU Edwards Campus.
  • Recommends to the Dean/Vice Provost, develops, and implements financial policies and procedures to document and enhance existing financial and business operations for the KU Edwards Campus.
  • Responsible for all accounting, financial, and reporting functions for the KU Edwards Campus JCERT and non-JCERT related budgets.
  • Establishes and maintains financial internal control systems.
  • Provides strategic review of resource allocation to ensure funds are directed toward strategic initiatives of the University; individual serves as key contact in any University audit process.
  • Provides financial analysis and support to the Dean/Vice Provost, Assistant Vice Provost, Associate Deans, and Directors overseeing programming at the KU Edwards Campus. Works with unit staff on budget planning and strategy.
  • Leads the preparation and development of the annual operating budget, analysis of carry forward and reserve balances, and an all-funds budget model.
  • Provides financial analysis, advice, and assistance on special projects (e.g., facilitates requests for department fee for service increases.)
  • Oversees funding for all JCERT and non-JCERT appointments on the KU Edwards Campus to include faculty positions, lecturers, research positions, staff and student hourly appointments.
  • With the Dean/Vice Provost, reports financial status and budget proposals of the KU Edwards Campus at quarterly JCERT Authority Board Meetings.
  • Supervises financial/accounting staff.

Administrative Services – 25%:

  • Provides leadership for the administrative support staff.
  • Provides Human Resources oversight in the areas of recruitment, retention, evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of personnel training programs.
  • Provides campus-wide leadership in the areas of equal opportunity and environmental health and safety.
  • Oversees contracts/agreements with external service providers to include landscaping/snow removal services.

Compliance – 5%:

  • Serves as the Edwards Campus partner/representative for KU’s Institutional Compliance Partners Network.
  • Reports compliance issues and investments.

Public Safety – 5%:

  • Provides dotted-line leadership to Public Safety staff located on campus.
  • Serves on the campus Emergency Management Leadership Team.

General Leadership – 5%:

  • Serves as a key liaison to central University services including the Budget Management/Fiscal Services, Comptroller’s Office, the CAO-SSC, and Human Resources, and provides support to the Dean/Vice Provost in matters relating to the Office of the Provost, Office of the Chancellor, and Internal Audit.
  • Represents the KU Edwards Campus on a variety of University committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Five years of progressively responsible leadership and administrative experience in a financial management role such as Director of Finance, Controller, Budget Officer, or in another executive financial management position.
  • Seven years of supervisory experience.
  • Advanced accounting experience and skills, as evidenced by application materials.
  • Experience applying excellent written and oral communication skills at all levels of an organization, as evidenced by application materials and interview process.
  • Experience with computer applications for fiscal operations, including proficiency in computer applications for financial analysis.
  • Experience in developing and administering budgets.
  • Experience applying excellent analysis and problem-solving skills, as demonstrated by work history.

  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Financial Analyst.
  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, business administration, public administration or related field.

  • Experience in articulating complex financial concepts, models or results in a clear manner to a broad audience.
  • Experience working collaboratively with all levels of the university population, including students, staff, faculty, administrators and other stakeholders.
  • Experience with Oracle financials and payroll systems.
  • Experience or applied understanding of KU business operations, policies, procedures and fiscal processes.
